Setting up your site

From a fresh install to a finished site — the structural pieces, in order.

Set your homepage

Go to Settings › Reading. Choose A static page, set your landing page as Homepage, and (optionally) pick a separate page as your Posts page for the blog. Fernlight includes a front-page treatment so your homepage opens straight on its hero rather than showing a page title.

Build your menu

In Appearance › Editor, edit the header to set your navigation. Keep it tight — five or six top-level items reads best. You can nest related links into a dropdown (for example, a Docs submenu) by adding a submenu item.

Edit the footer

Under Editor › Patterns › Template Parts › Footer, update the sitemap links, the copyright line, and the social icons to your own.

Add a logo and site icon

Your site title shows as text by default. To use an image, add it via the Site Logo block in the header. Set a browser-tab icon under Settings › General › Site Icon — use a square image, at least 512×512px.

Pages vs. posts

Use pages for evergreen content (About, Support, this guide) and posts for your dated blog or journal. Keeping the two separate keeps your help content from aging like blog posts do.
