Fernlight is a calm, editorial full-site-editing block theme for writers and slow-living blogs. Everything the theme itself ships with, on one page — see it live on the demo.

The free theme is the presentation layer: templates, template parts, style variations, theme.json design tokens, editor styles, self-hosted fonts, and editable block patterns. Optional site intelligence belongs to Companion, beta migration audits belong to Migration, and reviewable draft workflows belong to Pro.

Theme boundaries

Fernlight does not register custom post types, call remote services, expose custom REST endpoints, create content, publish content, or add workflow settings.

• Presentation: full-site editing templates, header and footer parts, post and page layouts, archive/search/404 templates, and WooCommerce-ready block templates.
• Design system: semantic color roles, measured reading widths, Cormorant Garamond and DM Sans typography, spacing rhythm, editor styles, RTL, and style variations.
• Patterns: inserter-ready sections, post parts, archive layouts, and full-page starting points that editors can replace with their own copy.

Reading, patterns, and styles

Fernlight includes 50+ editable block patterns for heroes, editorial sections, post parts, newsletter and call-to-action sections, post lists, archives, and full-page layouts. Default, Sage, Ink, Warm Sand, Clay, Sky, Dusk, and Dark style variations are available in the Site Editor.

Performance & accessibility

• No front-end JavaScript from the theme.
• Self-hosted fonts and modular CSS, with additional styles for the templates and features in use.
• WCAG-conscious contrast across variations, a proper skip link, strengthened focus states, and a reading-first print stylesheet.

Requirements

WordPress 6.7+, PHP 8.0+, GPL-2.0-or-later, translation-ready with a bundled POT, and RTL styles. Test your multilingual plugin with your chosen content and settings.
